If you are traveling with young adults, they will love the freedom to walk to the popular areas. There is Little Miller's ice cream and coffee shop on the corner, which is famous in the area. A little further on will bring you to churches, shops, skate park, playground, and grocery stores. Plenty to explore for those who do not drive to walk or bike to.
The Home:
We strive to be earth and family friendly while remaining an economical choice for travelers. We believe in reducing our carbon footprint, reusing, and recycling. Our home was purchased newly remodeled and we continue to make environmentally conscious changes when the opportunity arises. Nearly all light fixtures are LED with motion sensor activators to turn on or off when a person enters and exits the room. The water heater is water on demand and all appliances are energy star rated. We have recycling bins and instructional information in the unit should you choose to recycle. If you plan on preparing meals and would like to compost, please let me know and I would be happy to arrange that for you.
Most of the items in our home are purchased with eco-friendly in mind, while others have been refinished since recycling in Alaska is quite limited.

Yard:
The backyard is currently large, but a bit on the rolling topography side. As soon as the ground is workable, we will be leveling the backyard and adding in a fence with an above ground pool. We have a green “lawn,” but it is comprised of wild grass and plants that do not require additional watering. All the plants on the grounds are local, chosen for the healing properties, soil type, and no additional watering requirements to protect this precious resource. We are surrounded by wild raspberries and high bush cranberries. If you are interested in learning about the traditional uses for the wild plants in the area, I will be happy to show you and give samples.
Our guests are not required to share our environmental zeal or even participate in recycling. Future projects include wind and solar power, living roof.
Guest Access:
The backyard is a shared space, accessible to all. Feel free to join in with others if there are some outside already. The garage is not available to guests right now, but there is plenty of parking on the premises.
Guest Interaction:
I respect the privacy and space of my guests. We are available if you need anything. We are often running around outside and taking advantage of the beautiful Alaskan summer nights, feel free so socialize as you feel like it.
Neighborhood Overview:
This is a family friendly neighborhood. There are moose that frequent the area and horses at the end of the cul-de-sac.
Getting Around:
Public transportation is not a strong point in this area, it is best to have your own vehicle. We are on a bike path that is within walking distance of stores and parks. Down the street there is a bike rental shop. For those on a road trip, we are not far from the main highway.
Other Things to Note:
Guests will not be wanting for activities in the area. For those traveling with small children, there is no fenced in backyard as of yet. Although, once the ground is workable this year, we will be putting one in.
